Graduation and references

Graduation

The University holds graduation ceremonies throughout the year. You can find dates and details on our Graduation at Coventry page once they are confirmed. Make sure to select your study location when checking graduation details.

Important

  • If you’ve submitted an appeal, you won’t receive your certificate or be able to graduate until your case is resolved.
  • If you have an outstanding debt, you won’t be able to graduate or receive your certificate until the debt is cleared. You’ll then be deferred to a future ceremony.

Higher Education Achievement Award (HEAR)

HEAR is your electronic transcript showing your course details, grades and overall result. You can:

  • access it during your studies to use as evidence of completing each stage of your course.
  • share it with employers or agencies if you are going for job interviews etc.
  • keep using it after graduation.

You won’t receive a paper copy, so it’s important to register while you’re still a student and then set it up using your personal email address. If you don’t, you’ll need to buy a copy later via the online shop.

Read about HEAR and access your own report by registering via our website.

Note: HEAR does not include attendance or comments about your suitability for a specific role. It is not an academic reference.

Verification of awards

The University uses Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD), the UK's official service for verifying:

  • academic degrees
  • course dates
  • graduation details
  • authenticating universities.

This service is used by employers, councils, embassies and agencies. Please note HEDD does not include attendance records or personal comments about your suitability for a role.

If you are asked to verify (e.g. for a job, visa or further study) direct the organisation to HEDD. They’ll need to:

  • submit a verification request
  • pay the required fee.

HEDD will process the request accordingly.

Academic references

If you need an academic reference that includes details like attendance or suitability for a role:

  • Contact your Course Tutor / Course Director directly.
  • Ask for their permission before using their name and to provide them with written consent to share your data with third parties.

Please refer to the student guidance about requesting a reference.
