Changes to your individual modules

It’s your responsibility to check that your course details are correct. You must do this by Monday of week 3 of teaching using the Student Online Academic Record (SOLAR) system. Mistakes not corrected by this deadline may affect your exam schedule and result processing.

How to request a module change

If you want to change a module:

  • Speak to your course or module tutor as soon as possible.
  • If they agree, they’ll send your request to the local registry team.
  • If approved, your record will be updated to show your new modules / course of study.
  • Check SOLAR to confirm the changes have been made.

You must complete any permitted changes by the end of week 2 of the teaching block.

Late changes and withdrawals

If you want to change your module selection after week 2 of the teaching block in which your module is being taught, you must withdraw from your course or reduce your course of study for the year by withdrawing from a particular module or modules. You may only withdraw from modules before the date of the first assessment.

If you wish to switch between full-time and part-time study, speak to your Local Registry Team immediately. Be aware this may affect your funding and visa status - you must ensure you understand these implications before requesting any changes. If the requested changes are approved they usually take effect from the date you notify your Local Registry Team.

Failure to notify module withdrawal

If you stop attending a module without officially withdrawing, you will be recorded as ‘absent’ and receive a ‘fail’ grade on your results. This will appear on your final transcript

Withdrawing from your course

If you’re thinking about leaving your course:

  • Talk to your Course Tutor or Director first.
  • Follow the official withdrawal process to avoid unexpected tuition fee and student loan charges.
  • You’ll still be responsible for accommodation costs.
