Collect your ID card

Your Student ID card

Access to services: Your student ID card is essential for accessing a wide range of campus facilities. Whether you're entering the library or using computer labs your ID card acts as your personal key. It ensures that only enrolled students can use these resources, helping maintain a secure and efficient environment for study and recreation.

Attendance monitoring: Your student ID card is also important for keeping track of your attendance. At many lectures and seminars, you’ll scan your card when you arrive. This helps us to support your learning and check in if you miss a few sessions. It’s a simple way to stay connected and make sure you’re getting the most out of your time here.

Remember your card is just for you - never give it to anyone else to use.

Where and when do I collect my student ID card?

When you’ve completed enrolment, you’ll get your student ID card. Here’s everything you need to know about collecting your student ID card.

Collect your card in person from the collection points on campus.

Activation

After collecting your ID card, you’ll need to activate it.

  • Wait for at least 15 minutes: After your new card has been printed, make sure you wait for a minimum of 15 minutes before you try to activate your card.
Tip: Only wait to do this if you need your card straight away. You can activate your card the next day or whenever you are back on campus.
  • Find a Salto reader or Phoenix registration point: Mile Lane has three Salto readers that you can use to activate your card. One as you enter the main entrance and two by the lifts going up to both the North and South sides of the building. Salto readers are black and Phoenix registration points are silver.
  • Hold your card against the reader: You can use both sides of the card to do this.
  • Wait for 3 seconds until it beeps: Wait until the light flashes green and you hear a beep (this usually takes about 3 seconds). Your card is now activated.
  • Reactivate weekly: You will need to reactivate your student ID card once every week on a Phoenix registration point to make sure that your access to buildings and attendance is kept up to date. It is important to do this so you can get into buildings and register your attendance at classes correctly using the Touchpoint machines.

Replacing your ID card

If you’ve lost it or it’s damaged, here’s how you can get a replacement.
