Placement Year Criteria

  • Taken between second and final year. Minimum 24 weeks, usually around 30 hours a week
  • The placement role must relate to a student’s degree, and can be paid or unpaid
  • Tier 4 students have to complete a minimum of 9 months, equivalent to the academic year
  • Placements need to be approved before the next enrolment

Placement Year Approval Process

All year-long placements (sandwich placements) must be recorded on InPlace. A sandwich placement is taken between the second and final year, which includes being enrolled on to a placement year module.

  • Student emails TalentTeam@coventry.ac.uk to notify that a year placement has been secured
  • Instructions for starting the approval process via InPlace will be emailed back to the student
  • Student completes required documentation and completes the process on InPlace
  • If you are a Tier 4 student, please ensure that your student visa covers the period of your placement and the remaining time left on your degree. If your visa needs to be extended then you will need to contact the International Student Support Team, ideally 3 months prior to start of placement on studentsupport.io@coventry.ac.uk
  • Once all checks have been completed we can then approve the placement
  • At enrolment ensure that you enrol onto the placement year module and not your final year

Please note: students are not required to pay any tuition fees while completing a year-long placement.

Short Placement Approval Process

All short placements must be recorded on InPlace. A short placement is any work experience that is completed as a requirement of your course or one of your course modules, this does not include summer placements/internships.

  • Student emails TalentTeam@coventry.ac.uk to notify that a year placement has been secured
  • Instructions for starting the approval process via InPlace will be emailed back to the student
  • Student completes required documentation and completes the process on InPlace
  • Once all checks have been completed we can then approve the placemet
