Dr Hany Wells

Dr Hany Wells is an academic leader with 23 years of experience in a variety of senior management positions in Higher Education. Her professional accomplishments demonstrate her passion for, and achievements in driving innovation and continuous improvement for delivering an outstanding student and staff experience through developing sector-leading practices. Hany has successfully improved academic quality, staff engagement and student experience in different large and complex Higher Education (HE) institutions.

Hany has an in-depth understanding of the HE sector's challenges, such as international recruitment and reputation, fees, and increased living costs, attracting and retaining the best talent, digital transformation, student engagement, retention and completion rate and student and staff wellbeing. She has led several complex, innovative projects by managing and leading sizable teams of academics and professionals.

As the Academic Dean at Coventry University London, she provides strong academic, strategic, and operational leadership to different teams by promoting a culture of excellence to achieve an outstanding student experience, employability, and programme innovation. She has extensive experience implementing inclusive and safe culture to inspire and support staff. She is a member of the Campus Executive team and, in July 2021, was awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

Prior to this role, Hany was the Associate Dean Student Experience and Quality Assurance at Coventry University London, where she led several transformational projects that significantly improved student satisfaction in all areas, including MEQs, NSS and PTES.

Before her time at Coventry University London, Hany was the Associate Dean Postgraduate Development and Head of the Management, Leadership and Organisation Department at Hertfordshire Business School (HBS). Under her leadership and ambition for innovative curriculum and pedagogy, she changed the landscape of postgraduate study at HBS, by enhancing the overall quality, recruitment, and structure of the postgraduate portfolio.

Hany has remained committed and active in maintaining her professional development and has continued to publish and present as a keynote speaker in several conferences and events. She completed her PhD in Project Management in 2010, at The Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management, University College London and has worked with organisations such as Reuters Thomson, Logica CMG, PA Consultancy, PM Group, BT, Fujitsu, APM and OGC (Office of Government Commerce). She has published papers and chapter and presented at high-ranking journals and conferences, such as IRNOP, PMI Research, EURAM and HICSS, IJPM and JPM, CABS in the areas of teaching and learning, project complexity, methodologies, and reasons for project failure.

She has worked as an External Examiner at several HE institutes including Saïd Business School, Oxford University for their executive master’s on Managing Programmes and Projects. Hany is a Certified Management and Business Educator (CMBE) and a member of Charted Associate of Business Schools since 2018.

Dr Hany Wells’ approach has been continuously rethinking how to deliver and how to engage with learners and conceptualise the relationship between educators and students. She is passionate about providing exciting, inclusive, and impactful learning opportunities where students are transformed into global, agile, enterprising, and employable individuals. She has dedicated her professional life to ensuring that the fast-changing needs of learners are supported through effective pedagogies that involve active learning, complemented by technology and real-world practice.
