Course overview
This apprenticeship degree in Operating Department Practice is designed to equip aspiring practitioners with the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to excel in the evolving profession.
Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) play a critical role in perioperative care, working alongside multidisciplinary teams at various surgical stages and expanding their skills to non-traditional acute settings. This apprenticeship provides opportunities for learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours associated with delivering safe, competent, patient-centred care across the three phases of the perioperative journey: anaesthetics, surgery and recovery.
Successful graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Operating Department Practitioner. Areas of Study
Subjects covered on the programme include professionalism, human factors in care, the role of research, evidence-based care and healthcare leadership. Anaesthetics, post-anaesthetic and surgical care and practice are threaded throughout the course to develop skills and knowledge appropriate to the level of the course.
