Leadership and Management Apprenticeships

Leadership and Management Apprenticeships

The BA (Hons) Applied Leadership and Management maps to the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship standard and therefore will allow the apprentice to develop the skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours required to achieve professional qualification and accreditation: the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Diploma in Management and Leadership and full Chartered Manager status with the designator letters ‘CMgr’.

The programmes are delivered using a blended learning approach, mainly in the place of work. The BA (Hons) will usually take four years to complete on a part-time basis and the Foundation degree will usually take two years.

We offer bespoke programmes, developed and delivered by sector experts within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, aimed at management apprentices working within:

  • NHS, wider healthcare and life sciences sector
  • Care sector: public and private sector
  • Emergency Services: Fire, Police and Ambulance
  • Sport Science sector

Apprentices undertaking an apprenticeship within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences will have the opportunity to achieve:

  • BA (Hons): Applied Leadership and Management (typically 4 years - 16 modules plus management project)
  • Foundation Degree: Applied Leadership and Management (typically 2 years - 12 modules)

Both qualifications are offered via work-based learning by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Coventry University and fundable by the Apprenticeship Levy.

Programme Content & Delivery

Work-based Learning:

The programmes are based on applied work-based learning, allowing access to apprentices who might not previously been able to gain an award of this quality. This will give the opportunity for employers to recruit apprentices at any stage of their career and allow them to develop into professional managers within their sector, taking lead responsibility for people, projects, operations and services to deliver long term organisational success.

The academic teaching is delivered through workshop based learning sessions (up to four per module) supported by online materials, one to one coaching sessions, action learning sets and work-based application and reflection. All modules within the course are mandatory for completion of the qualification and the apprenticeship.

Apprentices will be assessed at the end of each module. The assessments will involve both the University and the employer, and will consist of development of a portfolio demonstrating learning, development and reflection throughout the course and the inclusion of 360-degree feedback (subordinates, supervisors, tutors, managers, external stakeholders and self).

Modules

The modules have been developed so that they are integrated in terms of content, assessments and skills development to ensure ‘feeding forward’ both within and between years of study. This ensures development of an individual’s skills and knowledge in a ‘safe hypothetical’ environment before they are applied in the real workplace environment. This culminates in the delivery of a work-based management project, determined by the employer and assessed as part of the BA(Hons) award.
