In the first year, you will study six mandatory modules covering key areas of human factors in aviation (human information processing in aviation, decision making and error in aviation, flight deck design, selection, stress and stressors, and training and simulation), plus you will be asked to undertake a critical review of contemporary literature on a topic within the field.
Human Factors Research Methods and Data Analysis are included within each taught module, designed to allow a more focused approach and demonstration of application in a range of different contexts.
We regularly review our course content, to make it relevant and current for the benefit of our students. For these reasons, course modules may be updated.
Applicants should ideally hold an honours degree 2:2 or an equivalent international qualification or above in a cognate, psychology, medical or engineering discipline, and have experience in the operational aspects of the aviation industry.
However, applications from candidates with relevant experience and professional qualifications, or those with an undergraduate degree in another discipline will also be considered on an individual basis.

You will study modules totalling 180 credits.
A typical 15-credit module requires a total of 150 hours study. This is made up of optional teaching contact hours, guided and independent study.
Teaching hours vary each semester and year of study. During typical 15-credit modules. you can expect 60-90 minutes of optional online teaching hours each week. You will also have the option to meet with staff for advice and feedback. As you progress through your studies, teaching hours may reduce.
Guided and independent study:
Throughout your studies, you will be expected to spend time in guided and independent study to make up the required study hours per module. You’ll be digging deeper into topics, review what you’ve learned and complete assignments. This can be completed around your personal commitments. As you progress through your studies, you’ll spend more time in independent study.
Online learning:
As an innovative university, we use different teaching methods including online tools and emerging technologies.
