Access to HE
Access courses are designed for people who may not have the conventional educational requirements to enter on to a higher education course. The course will enable you to acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence to compete on an equal footing with students starting degree programmes through conventional entry channels like A levels and BTECs.
Successfully completing an Access to HE course at CU Scarborough will guarantee you progression onto a relevant degree course at CU Scarborough.
If you undertake an Access to HE course, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. If you are eligible and awarded an Advanced Learner Loan, and successfully complete an eligible Higher Education course, the outstanding balance from your Access course could be written off. For full information and to check your eligibility visit the Student finance for undergraduates web page.

Learning mode
Our Access to Higher Education courses run over 36 weeks. Attendance on campus is required 9:30am – 2.30pm (including a half-hour lunch break) on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You will also have the option to attend optional sessions including time with a progress coach or to meet with staff for advice and feedback.
Our timetable purposefully mirrors school timetables, avoiding Mondays and Fridays on campus, which tend to coincide with teacher training days. Throughout your studies, you will be expected to spend time in guided and independent study to make up the required study hours per module. Learners typically spend around 5 hours on independent study per week.
