Digital Design Consultancy is a practical multimedia course that spans design, video, web marketing and animation disciplines.
Digital Design Consultants (DDCs) use their expertise of social media, media design, marketing and advertising, alongside good professional business practice, to advise clients about how to generate engaging material, such as animations, digital and printed promotional branding, and video productions to aid in their client’s business growth.

You will learn the fundamental production skills in a range of multimedia disciplines including digital moving image production, 2D and interactive design, web design and professional consultancy skills. The creation, communication and management of digital products and projects will enable you to develop your entrepreneurial thinking and apply this to create effective products that will engage your client’s customers.
This module covers business fundamentals and will introduce you to the world of the digital media professional. You'll be guided through topics such as the digital industries, business basics such as how to talk to clients, creating digital business strategies and practical elements such as design studio practices, reading client briefs and how professional digital designers create ideas for projects.
Typical assessments on this unit will take the form of pitching new digital business strategies for clients to help them improve their existing business.
Focusing on moving image production, you'll utilise essential elements such as camera skills, lighting techniques, visual effects and editing with Adobe Premiere Pro to create your own filming projects around a variety of challenging subjects.
Assessments for this module will support the development of your visual analysis skills by examining existing moving image products and then using practical skills to make a moving image film.
This module will begin with an exploration into how humans interact with digital media products such as tablets, mobile phones, websites and digital signage.
You'll learn how interfaces across multiple platforms are communicating with their users in order for them to use and enjoy digital products.
Typical assessments for this module will involve creating animated prototypes for an interface using prototyping software such as Adobe XD.
This module will guide you through both front end web design and back end development so that you can get a complete picture of how to create a functioning and compliant website.
You'll gain experience in using C# and HTML and CSS and will also use development frameworks such as ASP .Net Core MVC.
Typical assessments for this module will involve researching and proposing a design for a website and then coding and developing the idea to realisation.
This module will teach you how to decode and design advertising and marketing communications for specific target audiences. You'll be guided through the psychology of consumer behaviour, examine marketing and advertising production techniques and have the opportunity to gain skills in designing brand materials, creating and shooting adverts and 2D graphic design skills.
You will also be able to acquire knowledge and skills in industry-level software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

Spinning logos, TV idents and animated title sequences for film and television are some of the products this unit will enable you to design. Using industry-grade software such as Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects, you'll build up a knowledge and understanding of animation principles, motion graphics and visual effects for a variety of digital platforms.
Assessments can take the form of designing digital buttons, logos and other interface assets and designing promotional videos and idents for companies.
The final year will provide you with opportunities to become a digital influencer. You will take ownership of a campaign which you will monitor and manage, in addition to learning how to teach others, promote your services to clients and become a change agent within the industry.
Focusing on mobile application design, you will be introduced to working with the agile project development method, known as PRINCE 2, in order to research, create, code and test a concept for a new mobile app.
You'll gain essential knowledge in user experience design and user centred design, and apply key concepts directly to your practical work throughout the module. As well as building on your HTML and CSS skills, you'll gain foundation knowledge in working with APIs and development platforms such as Cordova and PhoneGap.
Assessments for this module can take the form of pitching a new concept for a mobile app or game to a client and then building and demonstrating it to your client for final approval.
Running a digital business can be fraught with pitfalls and learning curves. This module will guide you through the journey of conception, establishing and running a small business start-up or freelance company.
Assessments for this module can include proposing a new business concept, negotiating legal and ethical issues, and designing and executing a launch campaign for the business.
Sometimes the hardest part of creating a campaign is encouraging audiences to respond and take action, creating leads. This module will help you gain essential skills in knowing how to manage and measure the success of a campaign for your client.
The focus will be on creating and executing social media campaigns across multiple platforms, where you will work with analytical data in order to measure success, meet targets and make changes on the fly to ensure maximum reach for a campaign.
Assessments for this module often take the form of managing a pre-built campaign for a product, analysing data and then proposing and executing changes and creating additional campaign material to improve project performance.
Often, a digital media professional's job does not end upon handing over finished products to clients. The creation of new digital products will often involve supporting clients and their workforce with understanding and using new products.
This module will support you in helping your clients and their business embrace digital transformation, providing training documents, instructional videos, posters and online learning materials.
Typical assessments for this module will include providing a training needs assessment of a workforce and then designing materials to teach individuals how to use a website, interface or digital product that you have made.
Collaboration and creativity are essential skills for a media professional to possess. This module will give you the opportunity to gain valuable skills in troubleshooting, managing teams, iterating digital products to milestone deadlines and thinking on your feet in order to ensure the success of a project.
Assessments for this module could take the form of being given a pre-built project which is in various states of completion, from launching to failing or falling behind. You would then be asked to work in teams to pick up the project and utilise all of your skills to ensure its successful completion.
You will apply all of your experience in promoting, advertising and successfully managing brands from the previous modules to your own success in the industry. This module will support you in identifying your development needs, writing CVs and cover letters and how to present yourself at professional and industry events.
Working collaboratively, you will plan, design and host your own networking event to showcase your talent and skills for the potential employers you have sought and attracted to your event.
Assessments for this module will usually involve the production of planning paperwork for your event and producing your own self-promotional materials such as business cards, logos and promotional videos.

The Digital Design Consultancy role is part of a fast-paced and expanding industry. This course is taught as an accelerated two-year programme which is designed to support your development of the essential skills you need to get you employment-ready and into the industry quicker. Our teaching methods are varied, offering a number of teaching styles to suit the needs of all our students, so in addition to lectures, we also utilise a blended learning approach, including online aspects, workshops and group work.
We also operate an open-door policy, with additional availability via email and our online learning platform, Moodle.
Progression through the modules develops knowledge and skills, including communication (written and oral), study skills, research methods, project management, presentation and career development. We will also encourage you to consider your employability and/or entrepreneurial development.
Unlike traditional institutions, there are no end of year exams. Instead, learning is assessed through coursework, portfolios and group work which is more reflective of our learning model.
Full-time students can expect up to 20 hours of learning activities per week. The majority of this will be face-to-face teaching, with the addition of individual and group tutorials and independent/online learning.
Classes usually run Monday to Friday at a fixed time each day, either in the morning (9am-1pm) or afternoon (2pm-6pm). On Wednesdays we offer a choice of enhancement activities between 9.30am-1.30pm to support your studies, providing time in the afternoon to engage in clubs and societies.
Groups are kept at an average of 25-50 students per class. This way, students can take advantage of small numbers to increase contact time with lecturers.

This course is offered as an accelerated degree programme, where you are able to study six blocks each year and finish in two academic years. You would still be eligible for both tuition fee loans and maintenance payments, which would be split across the six blocks evenly to ensure you are funded throughout the academic year. As a full-time student or part-time student resident in the UK or EU, you can apply for a loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees at CU Coventry from Student Finance England.

Graduates could move into a variety of media-industry related jobs such as animation, moving image production and design. Graduates may also wish to explore a career in marketing and media management, in addition to exploring work as a freelancer.

For UK and EU students, if Parliament permit an increase in tuition fees, we may increase fees for each subsequent year of study in line with any such changes. Following the UK’s planned exit from the European Union, EU students should be aware that there may be a change to UK laws following the UK’s exit, this may change their student status, their eligibility to study part time, and/or their eligibility for student finance. We will act in accordance with the UK’s laws in force in relation to student tuition fees and finance at that time. For international students, we may increase fees for each subsequent year of study but such increases will be no more than 5% above inflation.
