If you’re looking to strengthen your leadership knowledge, skills and behaviours, this apprenticeship course could be the next step in your professional journey. Designed by experienced head teachers, it builds on best practice leadership theory to encourage you to reflect on how your learning can improve your professional practice.

This Level 5 Operations Manager apprenticeship is a taught qualification delivered online. It gives you a practical understanding of the principles underpinning excellent leadership, and supports the development of skills and confidence to apply them in your workplace.

Created for aspiring and current leaders, administrators and managers in schools, colleges, universities, local authorities or academy trusts, this course is designed to help you apply leadership theory in practice through activities, such as a substantial change project that supports whole-school improvement within your organisation.

Course details

This Level 5 apprenticeship is designed to help you build strategic leadership and management skills to succeed as an operations or departmental manager. You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in operational planning, project management, finance, communication and team leadership and build your confidence in solving problems, making decisions and leading change to meet organisational goals.

It also encourages you to develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence and performance management skills. By the end of the course, you should be better equipped to lead departments effectively, align operations with business strategy and inspire high-performing teams in dynamic environments.

Entry requirements

England

Applicants must:

  • have management or leadership work experience or Level 3 BTEC / A levels
  • be employed in education, with team, management or leadership responsibilities.

If your qualifications were gained outside the UK, you will need to provide an official comparability statement for non-UK qualifications from UK ENIC

Eligible candidates who do not work a minimum of 30 hours per week will require an extended apprenticeship duration to fully meet the requirements of the apprenticeship. This timeframe will be discussed during the enrolment process.

You must:

  • confirm with your employer that they are able to fund you for this apprenticeship provided by CU Apprenticeships (Better Futures) Ltd before making your application
  • demonstrate you hold the right to work and study in the UK and have been resident in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years. For exceptions to this, please see Annex A of the Apprenticeship funding rules 2024 to 2025
  • not already be on a government-funded programme.
