Opening a UK Bank Account

All students will need a bank account during their studies. It is a good idea to research banking options to find a bank that suits your needs.

What you will need

To open a bank account, you will need:

  • Proof of identity (e.g. passport)
  • Proof of address (international students will need proof of home country and UK addresses)
  • Some banks require a Student Status Letter, which you can create on Nova*

Opening a UK bank account can sometimes be a difficult experience for international students. You should ensure that you have enough funds available to cover you for your first two weeks in London in case there is a delay with opening an account. You should also be aware that most banks charge a monthly bank account fee for International Student Accounts.

Coventry University London does not recommend any particular banks.

*Students on Pre-sessional English, Erasmus and accelerated courses must request a letter by email to studentinformation@culc.coventry.ac.uk.
