A careers development expert at CU London has been honoured by a leading industry body for his work using AI technology to improve the profession.

Danny Mirza, Lead Consultant at Coventry University’s Careers and Experience Service London Hub, was presented with the Contribution to the Development of the Profession Award by the Career Development Institute (CDI) - the UK’s professional body for career development.

It’s amazing to have won this award and it’s very emotional for me having come to the UK in 2018 and to have been accepted by the higher education sector. Coventry University has provided me with an incredible platform and the opportunity to experiment in this field.

My work has focused on the use of generative AI and I’ve been running voluntary bootcamps and sessions with career development professionals around the world. In our industry there is a problem with volume, there are not enough career development professionals in the sector but there are a huge number of people needing our help.

Through the use of generative AI we can be more accessible to students and it can help us to analyse data much more effectively so we can provide a much more personal service. It also allows us to develop simulations for students to aid marketing and make sessions more interactive.

Judges at the CDI complimented Danny’s work to demystify Generative AI within the profession, adding that his innovative work demonstrated the best the careers profession has to offer.

Danny, who works across CU London and Coventry University London, is no stranger to accolades though, having been named 2025 Professional Servies Staff Member of the Year at CU London.

Careers advisers have an unparalleled opportunity to transform lives - whether by guiding young people during their education or supporting adults through public services and private consultations. Their work not only impacts individuals but also strengthens society and fuels the economy, making them essential architects of a brighter future for all.

This year's winners represent the very best of our profession, showcasing exceptional dedication, innovation, and impact across diverse settings. Their contributions are fundamental to empowering individuals and building a skilled, adaptable workforce for the future.
