Working in the UK

Working while studying will help towards living costs and enable you to gain valuable work experience. International students are able to work in the UK during and after their studies subject to specific requirements.

Working during your studies

Students can work up to 20 hours per week during term-time and full-time during your vacation period. If you had to obtain entry clearance before you arrived in the UK your visa stamp will include the words ‘work (and any changes) must be authorised'. This mean you are authorised to work up to 20 hours per week.

Working after your studies

From April 2012 the Tier 1 Post Study Work (PSW) visa has been abolished; this means if you finish your course after this date you will not be able to apply for PSW. There are however other immigration routes available for recent graduates including a new route which will be established under Tier 2.
