The Master’s Top-Up is a Postgraduate Diploma level programme. It builds on the learning from the Senior Leaders course (please see details on previous page) and provides an opportunity to examine in depth a particular aspect of leadership and management practice and/or complex business challenge. Accredited by Coventry University, this part-time course provides opportunities to further enhance your critical thinking skills, analytical skills and problem analysis skills as well as deepening your understanding of the role, purpose and practice of strategic leadership. This course takes one year to complete and culminates in a Master’s award.
Learning MethodsThe programme comprise two main components: a taught module on Leading and Managing Change in Organisations and the completion of a dissertation. The dissertation component includes tutor-led inputs on business research methods and one-to-one supervision for the dissertation.

Accredited by Coventry University, this part-time course adopts interactive and innovative teaching methods aimed at challenging your assumptions about and perceptions of strategic leadership and provides opportunities to enhance your strategic leadership skills and capabilities.This course takes one year to complete and serves a pathway to the Master’s level top-up qualification.
The Emerging Leaders is a Postgraduate Certificate level programme provides an opportunity for you to explore important aspects of operational management and leadership practice. Accredited by Coventry University, this part-time course adopts interactive and innovative teaching methods aimed at challenging participants’ assumptions about and perceptions of leadership and provides opportunities to develop your leadership skills and capabilities.This course takes one year to complete and serves a pathway to the Senior Leaders Postgraduate Diploma course and Master’s level top-up.

This flexible programme allows you to achieve a Master’s degree in three manageable stages. The three stages are Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and Masters. Each stage is structured independently allowing you to progress to a Master’s degree at a pace that suits you. The programme has been designed to incorporate occupational standards from the world of business so you can be such that the skills you acquire are the skills employers want. We currently provide this programme to single client organisations as well including West Midlands Police and WASPS Holdings.
For several years, Coventry University has worked in partnership with a major company headquartered in the West Midlands to design and deliver a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Strategic Management to cohorts of managers from across the organisation.The company approached Coventry University because it identified a need to identify and develop its strongest middle managers in order to produce its next generation of senior leaders. This would allow it to attract and retain future leadership talent for its UK and European businesses. The programme was designed with input from learning and development leaders within the organisation to ensure an appropriate balance of academic theories and concepts, and the practical application of these to their business.
To provide external recognition, and in response to client needs, we developed a postgraduate certificate programme, and secured accreditation from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). This meant that in addition to a Coventry University qualification, delegates also achieved a CMI Level 7 award in Leadership and Strategic Management and became members of the CMI.
Learning MethodsEach module is delivered in an intensive three-day block on the Coventry University campus. Modules have been designed with input from learning and development leaders within Sims to ensure an appropriate balance of academic theories and concepts, and the opportunity to apply these to business areas within the client organisation, as well as the roles of delegates.

Coventry University has worked with a leading financial services company to design a Leadership Academy programme. This aimed to address the need identified by the client to develop the personal and management capabilities of delegates. While we sought to give delegates exposure to relevant academic theories of leadership and managers, the focus of delivery was extremely practical. Delegates were encouraged to use relevant theoretical ideas to reflect on their roles and development. This was facilitated through a series of activities and formative assessments.
The programme was delivered both at Coventry University and at client sites, involving staff from both. Delivered over a period of 18 months, the content of the programme was mapped to the business needs of the client.
Delegates have told us that the programme has helped them to clarify some of the challenges that they face in their roles and how these can be addressed, as well as to give them a deeper and richer understanding of the management and leadership tools that they can draw on in their roles. Several have told us that they intend to seek promotion, and completion of the programme should help them to achieve this.
