Dr Michail Papaioannou

Michail is an experienced Portfolio Lead for Hospitality and Tourism at the School of Market and the Economy. He previously served as Principal Lecturer Subject Group Leader for Hospitality and Tourism at Coventry University London, and as Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Michail actively maintains industry connections through his involvement and membership with professional institutes and bodies. Michail holds a PhD from Sheffield Hallam University, along with an MSc in Tourism Management and Marketing, and a BA(Hons) in Hospitality Management from Bournemouth University.

With a wealth of industry experience, Michail has held management positions at renowned and leading establishments including The Savoy in London, Gleneagles in Scotland, and the Al Faisaliah in Saudi Arabia. He leverages his extensive industry knowledge in his teaching, ensuring that students are well-prepared for professional careers in the field.

Research and Consultancy

Michail Papaioannou is a researcher in hotel management, with a focus on strategy and the internationalisation process. His research interests include knowledge management, networks, organisational learning, and intellectual capital, and their impact on the competitiveness of hotels in the global marketplace. His research aims to develop strategies that facilitate effective internationalisation by leveraging organisational knowledge and intellectual capital. His research interests further expand to the fields of hospitality, education and the use of technology and extra-curricular activities within higher education.
