Boost for Coventry University in first major league table of 2015
Monday 27 April 2015
Coventry University has risen three places to 48th overall and become the UK's top modern university in the Complete University Guide 2016, published today.
In the first major UK league table of 2015, the University has continued its rise up the national rankings by entering the guide's top 50 and placing in the top five of universities in the West Midlands.
This latest boost means Coventry University is ranked as the leading modern university in all of the prominent league tables for UK higher education institutions, including theGuardian University Guide, the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, the National Student Survey and now the Complete University Guide.
The guide's rankings are based on measures including student satisfaction, spending on student facilities and graduate prospects, and are the first to take into account the findings of the government's Research Excellence Framework (REF) – which assess research quality across UK universities – in which Coventry excelled.
According to today's guide, Coventry University also ranks fifth in the country for its courses in the food science category, and is in the top 20 for courses in art and design (14th); building (15th); physiotherapy (16th); marketing (18th); and hospitality, leisure, recreation and tourism (14th).
Vice-chancellor Professor John Latham said:
"It's fantastic news that the first of the major UK league tables has brought a further boost to Coventry University to maintain our upward momentum. Our staff should be proud that their continued efforts and excellence is being reflected in the national rankings in this way. This latest success demonstrates not only our continued commitment to providing a high-quality academic experience for our students, but also our growing reputation for research excellence."
The Complete University Guide 2016 announcement comes in the wake of Coventry's success last week in the Queen's Awards for Enterprise, which saw the University awarded the prestigious accolade in recognition of its international growth over the past six years.
