Coventry University Group is to help more people to access higher education and to upskill or re-skill through bite-sized short courses – with no tuition fees to pay.
As part of the new Modular Acceleration Programme (MAP), CU Coventry, CU Scarborough and CU London will offer eligible learners the chance to study modules from higher technical qualifications (HTQ) without committing to the full course.
It gives learners shorter and more flexible courses to fit around work, childcare or caring responsibilities while still gaining skills to support their chosen career path or business.
The modules are part of a government-led pilot scheme developed by the Department for Education (DfE) and are funded with eligible learners not needing to pay back any tuition fees. Studying through MAP would be grant-funded with the grant leading to an associated reduction from the learner’s future Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) account from the DfE.
CU Coventry is set to deliver the Building Information Modelling and its Digital Application module which is part of the Construction Management for England HTQ, while CU Scarborough and CU London will deliver the Networking and Security module which is part of the Computing for England (Cyber Security) HTQ.
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) have been developed in collaboration with employers and are approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) meaning that employment prospects have the potential to be increased for learners as the courses meet employer-led occupational standards and ensure they meet employer skill needs.
We’re really excited to be part of the pilot programme and to be able to widen the accessibility for people to be able to learn.
Our offering has always been focused on more practical vocationally-based courses with flexible learning options so it is the perfect fit. This programme allows us to help more people to continue learning and, in some cases, learners can choose to study more modules and stack them building credits towards a full HTQ.
