Master of Business Administration (MBA) for employees of CWEIC Strategic Partners and Network

The MBA with a specialised pathway in Global Trade and Investment in partnership with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) is a bespoke programme exclusive to CWEIC Strategic Partners, as well as the wider trade and investment network in the Commonwealth. This bespoke course builds on the Coventry MBA in developing practice and creating sustainable long-term value by embedding a Social Business Field experience to one of Coventry University’s Global Hubs, as part of the course.

This is a closed bespoke course which builds on the Coventry MBA in developing practice and creating sustainable long-term value.

Participants will explore opportunities to expand their networks across regions where CWEIC’s Strategic Partners are located, while gaining an understanding of the geopolitical, legal, and economic outlook and opportunities. Students will enhance their negotiating skills, and further their understanding and implementation of global trade agreements (such as the AfCFTA) and investments, public private partnerships, while continuing to build and expand on new business models and processes.

How does learning work?

Delivery of the MBA with the specialised pathway in Global Trade and Investment will be blended through a mix of online synchronous lectures, seminars, and workshops facilitated by experienced module specialists, and asynchronous content using FutureLearn. In addition, you will be supported by a dedicated course director and course team. You will also have access to Aula, our bespoke learner experience platform.

Optional 3 day residential (fees and programme to be confirmed)

Learners will have the opportunity to participate in a 3-day optional residential at one of Coventry University’s global hubs across the world (Dubai, Brussels, Rwanda, Singapore, Coventry). It is intended the optional residential will provide a programme of networking opportunities, visits to local organisations, guest speaker sessions and masterclasses.

  • The MBA with a specialised pathway in Global Trade and Investment is only available to prospective students who are currently employed by a CWEIC Strategic Partner, or are member of CWEIC's wider trade and investment network, and meet selection criteria.

    The entry requirements are:

    • Those with a minimum of seven years Senior Leadership work experience may be awarded 60 Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) credits.
    • They would be required to complete six, 15 credit taught modules (Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Change Management, Strategy and Decision Making, Global Marketing, Global Trade and Investment – The political and Legal Context, Financial Instruments in a Global Business Context) plus the 30 credit MBA Consultancy project to complete the MBA.
  • The Coventry University MBA in Global Trade and Investment was designed specifically to align itself with the objectives and shared values of the Commonwealth, which focuses on “offering substantial benefits to trade and investment through the similarities in business, commercial and legislative practices”.

    The mandatory modules are:

    • Global Trade and Investment (The Political and Legal Context) – 15 credits
      The objective of this module is for students to critically review geopolitical theoretical frameworks and their impact on the international business environment. They will explore historical geopolitical contexts, institutional perspectives, and economic geography to understand how geopolitical factors influence business operations. Additionally, students will analyse emerging challenges and strategies for mitigating geopolitical risks while fostering sustainable development goals and global business success.
    • Financial Instruments in a Global Business Environment – 15 credits
      This module focuses on understanding organisations that are striving to adapt to the evolving goals of sustainable international environments influenced by ESG investing policies. It focuses on the emergence of new trade finance systems and green finance initiatives that present opportunities and challenges in achieving both financial inclusivity and environmental sustainability goals.
    • Innovation and Entrepreneurship – 15 credits
      This module will foster entrepreneurial and innovation skills in students by blending theory and practice to enhance their understanding of the functioning of modern enterprises to ensure sustainability and growth. It aims to endow students with the skills to utilise innovation in either setting-up a new venture or bringing an innovative and entrepreneurial vision into an existing organisation.
    • Leadership and Change Management – 15 credits
      This module is designed for aspiring leaders and managers who wish to challenge assumptions and develop an in-depth understanding of how to effectively lead an organisation. It also focuses on how leaders understand change and consider what leadership capabilities are required for transformational change. From these discussions, the module will go on to explore how various leadership capabilities may be suited to different organisational structures and different approaches to change.
    • Strategy and Decision Making – 15 credits
      Effective strategy planning, decision-making, implementation and ongoing management are dependent on deep and wide analysis of current information and data regarding an organisation’s strategic position. This module seeks to widen the student's perspective and understanding of the principles of strategic management and introduces a variety of analytical models of strategic analysis and strategy formulation. Students will also explore the pros and cons of strategic choices and consider the impact of and consequences of strategy implementation.
    • Global Marketing – 15 credits
      The module aims to introduce and develop a contemporary perspective of the global marketplace by focusing on the strategic marketing paradigm. It intends to invite discussion and analysis of key managerial decisions on formulating and executing global marketing activities, keeping in mind the cultural demands of the various markets across the globe.
    • MBA Consultancy Project – 30 credits
      The aim of this module is to ensure integration between theory and practice. It enables participants to apply their skills and management theory in carrying out live consultancy projects within their own or a host organisation. It also provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on their knowledge, experience and practice.
  • The fees for the academic year 2023/24 is £20,300, however for those eligible for RPEL, pro rata is £13,533.32

    A further discount of £1,000 per person will be applied to the first 100 learners to enrol on the course in the 2023/24 academic year. Final fees £12,533.32. Fees can be paid in instalments.
