Document requirements for all applicants
The qualifications we accept are specific to each country, the chosen course and the level of study.

Evidence required
Evidence for all required qualifications must be uploaded.
- Full official transcript showing consolidated grades for each semester, signed and stamped by the higher education institution.
- Transcripts must be in English. Any translation must be performed by an approved translation service.
If the applicant has graduated, you must upload qualification evidence for the application to be considered.
Students must prove they can read, write, speak and understand English to a certain level on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale.
UK government
The UK government requires international students to demonstrate a minimum level of English language ability to study in the UK. The level required is specific to the chosen level of study.
Coventry University Group
For foundation years and pre-sessional English programmes, we follow the UK government requirements:
- Minimum CEFR Level: B1 (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking).
To study at degree level or above, we require a higher level of English on most courses. For the course-specific entry requirements, check the details on the course listing.
Evidence required
To demonstrate CEFR Level B1, students must provide either:
- a Secure English Language Test (SELT) result from an approved provider, or
- evidence of a GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification level 4 or 5, Scottish Higher or Advanced Higher in English, gained through study at a UK school that they began when they were under 18.
To demonstrate CEFR Level B2 or higher, students must provide either:
- a Secure English Language Test (SELT) result from an approved provider, or
- a test result, with official score cards, from another reputable English language test provider (we will review this to decide if it is equivalent to CEFR Level B2 or higher.
A referee must write a statement that references the character, personality and behaviour of the applicant. The referee should be from an employer or an academic/teacher, depending on the applicant’s background.

The reference must be in colour and signed or stamped by the referee or on an official email.
The personal statement is an opportunity for students to convince us that they are committed to studying in the UK. This statement is more likely to be successful if it references the student’s:
- reasons for studying in the UK
- chosen campus location and reasons for choosing it
- chosen course and reasons for choosing it
- career aspirations.
Evidence required
The personal statement can be a maximum of 1,000 words and we recommend students use the full word count.
We need to see a copy of the student’s passport to confirm their identity. The student’s passport must be valid for at least three months following the course start date.
Note: We expect all the student’s personal details on their documents to match those details on their passport. If there are discrepancies, students must provide a covering letter as part of their application to explain any changes to the details, for example: name changes.

Document requirements based on applicant circumstances
Portfolios of work are required for some courses. You will be notified when to provide this following your application.

The notification will include details on what evidence to provide and how.
If a student has two or more years of work experience, a CV should be uploaded to support the application. A CV should also be uploaded if there has been an education gap.

A cover letter is only required when there are discrepancies in documents. For discrepancies in academic documents, the covering letter must be from the qualification awarding body. Affidavits are not accepted.

If a student is under 18-years-old when their course is due to start, we must receive consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian(s).

The Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) applies to all international students and researchers (apart from exempted nationalities), who are subject to UK immigration control and are intending to study or research at postgraduate level in certain sensitive subjects.

Some disabilities may impact learning and we want to support students from application through to study. There is no obligation to share disability information and students can always choose to share this information in the future.
The decision to share or not share disability information will not affect the application.

There are no requirements to provide evidence of disabilities at this stage. Evidence may be required in the future if reasonable adjustments are required to support a student to complete the course.
