Master’s in Disaster Management and Resilience (MSc)

With the option to complete in one year or two years part-time, this 100% online course is designed for those aiming to start or further their career in disaster management, whether in government, NGOs, or civil society.

This qualification helps provide you with the knowledge needed to develop innovative solutions and strategies that enhance resilience and includes a strong focus on climate change, risk management, and humanitarian action.

Disaster Risk and Resilience PGCert

This PGCert, offered 100% online by Coventry University, equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to excel in the disaster management sector.

This certificate focuses on evaluating risks, vulnerabilities, and capacities in complex socio-economic and political situations, with a special emphasis on humanitarian response, community resilience, and disaster risk reduction.

You have the flexibility to study full-time or part-time. Graduates are prepared for careers in international humanitarian organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and research, with past alumni working globally in roles such as risk analysts, policy developers, and response managers.

What you will study

All modules are offered on a rolling basis, at least once every eight months, ensuring they can be approached flexibly and fitted around the demands of full-time employment. Full-time study is one year and part-time study is usually up to two years.

We regularly review our course content, to make it relevant and current for the benefit of our students. For these reasons, course modules may be updated. The modules described below are for the May 2025 intake.

  • You can choose to study the master’s degree and PGCert full-time over three semesters in one year or part-time over two years.
  • You will have classes, online tutorials and seminars, with all your learning activities available on-demand so that you can learn at the best time and location for you.
  • Enjoy 24/7 access to electronic resources, including thousands of books, e-journals, and newspapers.
  • Receive guidance from an Associate Lecturer, who will lead weekly live sessions (recorded for those unable to attend) to provide clarity and depth on your learning.
  • The Associate Lecturer will also be available for fortnightly one-on-one consultations and can be contacted for further support via email and the platform.
