Turning passion into a career
For many professionals, fashion is a lot more than just clothing - it’s a culture and an entire business. However, turning this passion into a career takes more than just talent. It needs strategy, leadership, and professional life experience. That’s exactly what the International Fashion Management MBA at Coventry University London offers.
Supporting you towards success
Laura Onome Momodu, a current student from Nigeria, describes her MBA studies as “truly transformational.” Through her leadership, marketing, and strategy modules, she developed the skills needed to succeed in fashion business.
On the technical side, Laura studied topics like consumer research, market segmentation, digital marketing strategies, and frameworks like SOSTAC and Ansoff’s Matrix. She took all these learnings and planned the Renaissance Fashion X Art Showcase, a student-led fashion event organised 100% from scratch, bringing together designers, artists, and over 250 creatives.
“Coventry gave me the knowledge, but also the environment to practice, fail safely, and improve. I now feel prepared to enter the fashion business world not just as a strategist, but as a leader.”
Taking leadership to the next level
Coventry University London doesn’t just teach theory; it puts you in real-life situations so you can develop your confidence and leadership. Laura learned what her own leadership style looked like and then led a team of 50 creatives during the fashion event.
“Resilience, problem-solving, adaptability, and collaboration were critical. Working with peers, mentors, and industry partners taught me how to balance vision with compromise. Standing in front of stakeholders and pitching ideas required courage. Coventry gave me that platform.”
Opportunities and networking in London
Coventry University London’s Liverpool Street campus places you in one of the world’s fashion capitals. Laura viewed every street, exhibition, and brand as a live case study. Field trips which explored luxury brands and fashion exhibitions taught her all about global fashion markets. The University also brought exciting new opportunities. Through mentorships with Puig and internships at London Fashion Week, got valuable experience in luxury branding and retail. She now works part-time with Penhaligon’s, applying what she learned in her MBA directly to the role.
“Coventry created the bridge to Puig, and experiences like London Fashion Week allowed me to grow in confidence and skill. The MBA isn’t just about lectures; it’s about applying theory to practice.”
Creating your own possibilities
One of the most important lessons Laura learned is that opportunity doesn’t always come to you, but you can create it. Renaissance started as just an idea, and soon grew into a full-scale event. She also worked with Humble Magazine, which increased her network and experience in the industry.
“Renaissance became a culmination of leadership, marketing, and innovation. It showed me that with the right support, students can create platforms bigger than themselves.”
What to do next
The International Fashion Management MBA at Coventry University London is perfect if you’re looking to combine your creativity with business expertise. You could leave not just with knowledge, but with experience, confidence, and a network that spans London and beyond.
Laura’s journey reflects what could be possible: from student-led fashion shows to luxury mentorships – she built her own career in fashion whilst inspiring others.
