International Hospitality and Tourism Management students welcomed Francois Peretti from the UK branch of the Champagne Bureau for a guest lecture discussing the operations and marketing behind Champagne. With bureaus all over the world, Champagne Bureau is the educational and promotional arm of the world-renowned Comité Champagne based in Epernay, France.

Mark Fairhurst, Programme Leader of International Hospitality and Tourism Management said:

“We were delighted to be able to welcome Francoise to the Coventry University London. The event was an excellent opportunity for students to have a unique chance to have a tasting and learning session conducted by an industry expert which greatly enhances the curriculum”.

The Champagne masterclass included a tutored champagne tasting of delicious fine Champagnes and a discussion on the different varieties of champagne available. Students not only learned about how the grapes are grown, the processes of bottling and distribution, but they even got to sample five different Champagnes, discussing the innovations and developments in the Champagne industry and learning the real reason why Champagne is the world’s most enigmatic beverage.

International Hospitality and Tourism Management MSc student Tinna Frentz said:

"It was a great experience for us to learn about one of the important income streams for the hospitality industry – Champagne.  We learned about how champagne is made and served, but also about how much Champagne is exported to the UK and how the increase in the sparkling wine market is having a positive impact on Champagne sales.  It was amazing to feel Francoise’s passion for the product and of course one of the highlights had to be the chance to taste five different Champagne’s, and understand the differences between the varieties."

BA (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management student Agam Chug said:

“It gave us the appreciation of the art and the complex procedures that are behind the production of a commodity which is well celebrated and relished globally. We certainly left the room with greater knowledge and appreciation of Champagne after attending the masterclass.”

Coventry University London prides itself on welcoming experts who are at the forefront of their field for engaging guest lectures, seminars and panel discussions, assisting students in gaining real world insights and experiences. Students and staff of Coventry University London thoroughly enjoyed hosting the Champagne Bureau and look forward to welcoming Francois back to campus in the future.
