This week, we launched our new initiative for postgraduate students, FOCUS. FOCUS stands for future, opportunity, career, unique skills. All first term MBA students are taking part in this week long project, designed to help students put the business skills they have learnt in class to use.

Students have been put into groups of eight to ten, and given a brief by an industry ‘client’. Clients include previous Apprentice contestants Samuel Boateng (Build & Master) and Paul Sullivan (Bias Digital Consulting, as well as Mitch Strong (Jungle Creations), and Jacques Keyser (Vidcon). They will also get the chance to meet entrepreneurs and take a business trips across London for inspiration.

In between working on business recommendations for their clients, students are taking part in skill workshops for team work and public speaking. Students will also attend support sessions on their professional image and strategy and pitching support.

On the final day, each group will have five minutes to pitch to their client. A panel will pick the best teams to award trophies for:

  • Best Pitching Style Award
  • Client’s Choice Award
  • Executive’s Choice Award
  • Best Creative Ideas Award

The week promises to provide students with plenty a valuable experience in real business setting and enrich their CVs with important skills.
