Supporting local communities

The Confucius Institute at Coventry University has been actively engaged in supporting and participating in cultural activities within local communities for several years. One notable example is our collaboration with the Lower Precinct, the largest shopping mall in the area, where we have been invited to contribute to their Chinese New Year celebrations.

Moving forward, the Confucius Institute is committed to deepening our community involvement, striving to create more platforms for cultural communication and exchange among the residents of Coventry. We aspire to integrate Chinese cultural elements into a wide array of activities, enriching the multicultural fabric of the region.

Support for local schools

The Confucius Institute is dedicated to fostering Mandarin Chinese learning and promoting a deeper understanding of China among local schools and students. We offer a diverse range of programmes that can be customised to meet the unique needs of each school.

  • Chinese club
A weekly after-school class which teaches a combination of language and culture during term time.
  • Chinese experience days
Giving students the opportunity to visit the Coventry University campus to sample various classes including language, culture and activities.
  • Arts and crafts days
We can provide schools with hands-on lessons in various Chinese arts and crafts such as knot-making, painting, paper-cutting and calligraphy.

If you would like to organise a taster class or receive any additional information about how to book any of our school programmes, please contact us.

Support for local business and government departments

The Confucius Institute works actively with community groups who are interested in integrating Chinese culture and arts into their activities. Be it one-off events or more regular engagement we are ready to help local community groups bring a bit of China into what they do.

In addition to our community engagement, we can offer tailored Chinese language training programmes for government departments and agencies. These programmes are designed to equip trainees with essential Chinese language skills, including everyday expressions, specialised terminology, and grammatical structures relevant to their routine work. Furthermore, participants will gain insights into Chinese traditional culture, etiquette, customs, and values, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the local Chinese population. By breaking down language barriers and promoting cultural understanding, our programmes aim to enhance cooperation and strengthen relationships between government officers and the local Chinese community.

At the Confucius Institute we are dedicated to bridging cultural gaps, fostering meaningful connections and promoting mutual understanding between different communities. Through our diverse range of initiatives, we strive to create an inclusive and harmonious environment that celebrates cultural diversity and promotes intercultural dialogue.
