The Centre for Innovative Research Across the Life Course (CIRAL), was launched in September 2014, bringing together four groups of researchers with the aim of catalysing exciting and novel approaches to developing and harnessing new technologies.
Staffed by a multi-professional team of 30 academics, 22 doctoral researchers and several research associates, our vision is to identify solutions to improve health and wellbeing across the lifespan.

The Smart View, Covered: Technology Enabled monitoring and Self-Management- VIsion for patient Empowerment following Cardiac and Vascular surgery
The ultimate aim of this intervention is to empower mothers to breastfeed for as long as they wish. An associated increase in breastfeeding duration would result in reduced incidence of maternal and infant disease.
In order to improve public health we aim to improve the available information and behavioural support for infant feeding, and improve access to it via the web and smart phones since their use is becoming prolific. The main objective of this project is to develop a low cost, high reach intervention that can aid healthcare professionals in proactively delivering consistent, evidence based support to all mothers, in a format which is acceptable to all mothers, their partners and their clinicians, but particularly to those mothers least served by current services, without adding considerably to staff workload.
The aim of this project is to use a mixed method approach incorporating patient and public engagement to comprehensively evaluate across the three intervention sites.
The WREN Project will assess the feasibility of delivering a web-based cardiac rehabilitation intervention (ACTIVATEYOUR HEART) for those who decline or drop out from conventional supervised cardiac rehab. The feasibility trial will collect qualitative and quantitative data to inform the design of a definitive largescale multi-centre trial.
