Access to Higher Education

Access to Higher Education

Access courses are designed specifically for people who may not have the conventional educational requirements to enter on to a higher education course. The aim of a course is to enable you to acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence to compete on an equal footing with those students starting degree programmes through the conventional entry channels of A Levels.

Access to HE Courses

Access courses aim to give mature students the opportunity to prepare for an undergraduate Degree course at CUC, Coventry University* or another institution of your choice*. Courses we offer are:

2017/18 entry

*subject to meeting specific entrance criteria.

Progression routes

If you successfully pass the Access to HE course, you will be guaranteed a place on a Honours Degree course at CU Coventry, subject to meeting specific entrance criteria. The progression routes we offer are:

Entry requirements

As Access courses are designed for students who have not had the opportunity to access higher education formal qualifications are not mandatory, instead a Numeracy and Literacy assessment will be needed.

An interview will also be required so that our tutors are satisfied that you can benefit from the course and be able to cope with the future requirements of studying in higher education.

All students wishing to gain entry onto the access course should have a level 2 English equivalent certificate at the time of starting the course or should be willing to get one within the access academic year you have joined.

Funding

If you're applying for this course and you're over the age of 19 you can apply for funding through Student Finance England via the Advanced Learner Loan (formally the 24+ Advanced Learners Loan).

If you're undertaking an Access to HE Diploma and then continue to complete a higher education qualification the outstanding balance of your Advanced Learning Loan will be written off.
