Production Engineering and Operations Management MSc

OVERVIEW

This course starts in September 2017.

In an ever-demanding world market place the need to be competitive in production is essential. Businesses are reorganizing themselves in response to the challenges and demands of the 21st century and must be flexible and responsive to the changing market requirements. Manufacturing companies must produce high quality, cost-effective product in quick response time to customer demand. In order to do this, successful manufacturing companies must embrace the skill and expertise of engineering, business and management.

This course aims to develop production engineers who will be able to apply technology, business and management skills to respond to the demands of the industry for operational excellence.

This is an ideal course for technical students such as mechanical engineers, who wish follow a management career in factory operations and require additional production knowledge.

You will have access to the expertise within the Future Manufacturing Applied Research Centre and the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering  (a collaboration with industry: UNIPART).

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

On this course you will develop the skills necessary to design and develop lean and competitive manufacturing facilities as well as apply continuous improvement techniques to identify waste. You will learn to identify opportunities for the application of new materials and processes and evaluate appropriate production control system. You will develop the skills to assess manufacturing issues with regards to strategic and financial implications as well as work effectively in a team environment.

On the MSc in Production Engineering and Operations Management, you will study the following topics:

  • Engineering Materials Processes;
  • Metrology, Quality and Engineering Analysis;
  • Global Lean and Agile Operations;
  • Advanced Manufacturing Technologies;

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

This course will be delivered using lectures and tutorials. Collaboration with industry will be encouraged through the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) and the New Product Introduction Group Project will give the opportunity to work on real life case studies.

Entry Requirements

To enter this course you should have a first or second class honours degree in an appropriate discipline. However, entry qualifications are flexible and applications are welcomed for mature candidates and those with industrial experience.

This course requires IELTS 6.5Alternatively students may be admitted with IELTS 6.0 if they attend a compulsory five week pre-sessional English course, operated by Coventry University, before joining their master’s programme. If you don’t have the required level of English then view our range of Pre-Sessional English courses.

Please note: we have a range of taught postgraduate awards to suit your needs, from Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma to a full Master's Degree (MA, MBA, MSc, LLM). In most cases you can decide to exit at Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma level, without carrying onto the full Master's qualification.
