What can students do here?
Realise 3D manifestation of ideas which have included in the past toasters, vehicles, submarines, spaceships, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, formula one car, character models for animation and even an Alice in Wonderland teapot!
What is the most frequent request you get?
One of the most common requests we receive is ‘how to make realistic racing car models’.
How does the School of Art and Design use the studios?
The studios are used by many in the School of Art and Design where we have seen Interior Design create castles, Product Design create futuristic cricket pads, Animation create characters, Fashion create props, Theatre create fire places for productions, and Fine Art create a giant conker. The only thing we don't allow is the creation of weapons or anything harmful!
What equipment/software is available for students to use?
Technological software and clay.
How can students interact with the facility?
As a very hands on facility, students are very proud of their creations and have the ability to create whatever they imagine.
Who are the main users of the facility?
The studio is mostly used by Automotive and Transport students but is open to all students of the faculty given that they have had an induction.
What services and support are provided?
Constant flow of useable clay and advice about techniques and tools from our on-hand technicians.
What access do students have?
The studios are open Monday to Friday, 8:30m-9pm, with a technician available all the time.
