My current research aims to demystify non-belief by investigating what replaces or compensates for the psychological functions that religion provides for the religious among non-believers.
Kyle J. Messick graduated with a Master of Arts degree in social psychology from Ball State University following his undergraduate career in psychology at Indiana University South Bend. During that time, he became a member of Psi Chi (U.S. National Honor Society in Psychology) and Phi Eta Sigma (U.S. National Honor Society) as a result of his academic performance. Outside of his psychological pursuits, he is also a musician and a commissioned artist. Kyle worked as a research assistant at Indiana University and Ball State University and later was hired as a research associate at Indiana University where he constructed and performed a number of eye-tracking experiments dealing with prayer alongside Dr. Kevin Ladd. He is teaching modules on quantitative and qualitative research methods as he pursues his PhD. Kyle is the creator and actively oversees the websites for the International Association for the Psychology of Religion and the website for Division 36 of the American Psychological Association.
