QS Stars

Top 40 Best Student City in the world

This year Coventry has been ranked 39th in the QS Best Student Cities 2017 list and we are in the top 5 for UK cities!

The ranking is based on the six categories of the QS Best Student Cities index and this year Coventry has climbed 5 places from 2016.

These categories consisted of: University Rankings, Student Mix, Desirability, Employer Activity and Affordability and this year in the QS Best Student Cities includes a new category called Student View, based on a survey of students and recent graduates around the world.

Coventry University has been awarded an overall rating of 4 stars in the QS Survey 2016. Securing placement in this global league table serves as a worldwide comparative tool for prospective international students, parents and staff, making us part of an elite shortlist of universities.

Our performance in the core criteria

We scored 5/5 in 3 of the 4 main categories for assessment, which are:

  • Teaching
  • Employability
  • Research
  • Internationalisation

For teaching, we scored 100% for both Overall Student Satisfaction and Satisfaction with Teaching, with both results being provided by student survey. A set of results which secured us our 5/5 star rating!

In terms of employability we've shown that we excel; scoring 100% for both Graduate Employment Rate i.e. the proportion of students employed within 12 months of graduation, and Careers Service Support. This shows we are doing first-rate work when it comes to ensuring our graduates achieve both academic and real-world success.

Our finest results were awarded for Internationalisation, a criteria which lies at the heart of Coventry University. We scored 100% for: institutional research collaborations, international faculty, international students, religious facilities, and international diversity; proving we have a track record when it comes to working with global institutions and international students.

Other 5 star performances

Not stopping there, we also scored 5/5 stars for Facilities and Inclusiveness!

Coventry University's standout, 100% rated facilities include our IT infrastructure, libraries, medical facilities and student societies. And we're exceptionally proud of our results for inclusiveness, which include 100% for disables access and low-income outreach.

What are QS stars

QS stars relate to an individual institution's performance, and success is measured against predetermined thresholds, not other institutions, making the awards extremely personal and comprehensive.

The aim of the stars is to provide a university with a broad range of standards to meet, helping them to stand out for their particular strengths.
