Teaching and Facilitating in the Workplace CPD209

OVERVIEW

This module aims to enhance students’ knowledge in the theory and practice of teaching. Students will have the opportunity to learn skills which can be applied to their own area of practice which can assist in providing a stimulating learning environment. Furthermore, this module aims to prepare students who work with a variety of patient groups to facilitate learning. The module does not meet the NMC standards to become a mentor.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This module gives students the exciting opportunity to develop their teaching and facilitating learning skills within the practice of their own profession/speciality.

This module offers the opportunity for students to gather evidence towards the achievement of the Knowledge and Skills Framework core dimensions: Communication, Personal and People Development, Health, Safety and Security, Service Improvement, Quality, Equality and Diversity.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

  • The theories of teaching and learning;
  • How to identify factors that promote learning;
  • An understanding of the importance of supervision;
  • Techniques for the facilitation of learning;
  • How to be accountable for your own teaching and learning.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

This module will be delivered through a combination of directed and self-directed activities.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Coursework 1: 30 minute presentation

Coursework 2: 1500 word lesson plan (100% of module mark)

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

Guided student activity – 50 hours

Self-guided student activity – 150 hours

Total student activity – 200 hours

Entry Requirements

  • Ability to study at level 2;
  • Working within a healthcare environment for at least one year.
