Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education MA

This course starts in September 2017 and January 2018.

Run by the International Centre for Transformational Entrepreneurship (ICTE) in association with NCEE, the MA Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education aims to equip UK educators with masteries of the key elements of facilitating, teaching and organising entrepreneurial learning.

The programme is focused on developing enterprise and entrepreneurship educators and leaders in schools, Higher and Further Education. As such the emphasis is on supporting an entrepreneurial mind set - enabling educators to develop young people to live, work, enjoy and be unafraid to create ventures in a world of greater uncertainty and complexity.

Its educational aims are to:

  1. Produce autonomous learners who have an understanding of how to enhance their performance as enterprise and entrepreneurship educators through the development of conceptual underpinning and the application of learning from experience, insight and research;
  2. Promote critical analysis of contemporary entrepreneurial education theories and concepts required for effective enterprise and entrepreneurship teaching and learning;
  3. Develop in learners the ability to blend theory and practice in complex situations, both systematically and creatively, to improve enterprise and entrepreneurship education;
  4. Enhance lifelong learning skills and personal development in learners so they are able to work with self-direction and originality, contributing to the development of enterprise and entrepreneurship in education.

Key aspects of the programme:

  • Location – Each module starts with a three day residential study block at Coventry University and guest host institutions. This gives exposure to a range of teaching spaces and educational contexts.
  • Delivery methods – The course will use and explore a variety of teaching practices, facilitate access to externals experts, and provide opportunities to reflect on practice and skills building.
  • Structures to support students – This will include online learning platforms, peer mentoring, and tutor support for development pledges and dissertation supervision.

There are three stages of the programme:

  1. Postgraduate Certificate in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education.
  3. MA Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education.

Each stage must be passed before progressing onto the next.

Progression to the Masters level is dependent upon completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education and the Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education. It is possible to register for each stage separately, but if you do so, timetabling may result in some delay between stages.

Modules within the Postgraduate Certificate:

  • Entrepreneurial Educational Challenges
  • The Entrepreneurial Mindset
  • Entrepreneurial Behaviours, Skills and Attributes

Modules within the Postgraduate Diploma:

  • Opportunity Recognition and New Venture Development
  • Designing Entrepreneurial Organisations
  • Developing  Entrepreneurship Education Strategies

After the Certificate and Diploma stages, students will complete a research dissertation to gain the MA EEE.

The course will utilise a wide range of delivery mechanisms including use of the University’s online learning platform – CUOnline – to facilitate peer learning and communication with tutors outside the three day residential blocks.

Students will be encouraged to explore and assess other learning technologies as part of their studies.

The Certificate and Diploma stages are each assessed by portfolio that will include reflection on elements of learning from a variety of routes such as: individual essays, proposals and reports, presentations and projects, including commercial applications specifications, dissertation, reflective reports; collaborative discussion forums, oral/visual presentations, written reports, and case studies.

Self-directed learning forms an element of all modules and each student will be expected to make a number of pledges to act and reflect on through the programme. Pledges are undertaken to support the learning outcomes of each module and give experience and practice relevant to student’s own work and future career aspirations.

Each module will commence with a three day residential block at Coventry or a guest host institution. Self-directed learning also forms a vital element of all modules.
