Groupwork and the International Student

Course Overview

This practical session draws upon the useful publication, Finding Common Ground*  to look at assessed group work involving culturally diverse groups.

Key questions are likely to be:

  • How best to create groups?
  • What works for assessment?
  • The critical role of the task - is it truly collaborative?
  • How to manage the almost inevitable intragroup misunderstandings and conflicts.

It will be a mix of big issues and small niggles - both turn out to be important in gaining the maximum learning benefit from this important site of intercultural interaction.

What will I get out of this course?

An understanding of how to encourage group work in a culturally diverse class room.
