How to get to the University
Whether you're travelling to us by car, train, bicycle, bus, coach or plane - you'll find all the travel directions on our Find us page.
Airport Transfer service
If you are flying into Birmingham or London Heathrow airport, we offer a free transfer service at weekends. Alternatively you can book our premium service where a private chauffeur will drive you to your accommodation.
Do you need a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)?
Find out if you need a BRP, how to apply for a BRP and how to collect your BRP when you arrive in the UK. We strongly recommend that you have your BRP delivered to the University. Make sure you bring your BRP decision letter with you as you may need to show it at the airport with your passport and visa.
International student police registration
Your visa will tell you if you are required to register your presence in the UK with the police. Details of how to do this can be obtained from the Tier 4 Compliance Team and online, through the Police Registration Point for Coventry University. Once you have registered with the police, please go and see the Tier 4 Team in the Student Centre with your Police Registration Certificate.

Your Student ID card
You will need your card to:
- Access University buildings and accommodation
- Register your attendance at classes using the Touchpoints
- Access printing credits
If you're expecting a student loan, this will only be released after you have collected your ID Card.
How do I collect my student ID card?
ID cards for Home, EU and International students can be collected from the Student Centre. ID card collection will be available from 13 January 2020 and will run until 3 February 2020 on the specific dates below. If you have not collected your ID card by 3 February you can collect it from the Student Hub.

For International students you will receive your ID card as part of the enrolment process.
What documents do I need as proof of my ID and nationality?
When collecting your student card you will need to show your personal ID to verify your photo and nationality – Download the Accepted Proof of Identity and Nationality for further guidance.
Do online or distance students need a student ID card?
You will not need a student ID card unless you want to access campus facilities and services. For more information, email email@example.com.
Have you already arranged University accommodation?
If you have an offer of University owned or managed accommodation and have paid your deposit, you must inform FutureLets that you will be late, and they will confirm your key collection arrangements. You can contact them via email or by calling +44 (0) 24 76 158 158.
Are you an international or EU student?
The last date of enrolment is Monday 3 February. You must arrive in time for enrolment, as late enrolment is not permitted. If you have any further questions, please contact our dedicated International Student Support team via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call +44 (0) 24 7765 2152. If you have not arranged permanent accommodation, you will need to organise somewhere to stay for your first few nights. The university does not provide temporary accommodation.

What if I arrive late?
Please aim to arrive in time for the main teaching start date which is 20 January. However, we do appreciate that in certain circumstances (such as not getting your visa on time), this may be difficult. In this case, the following support and activities are available to help you settle in and catch up:
- Access your Online Induction materials, this will provide you with an introduction to the university, hints and tips about city life and allow you to find your learning materials
- Sign up for one of our Academic Orientation sessions for Late-enrollers which will help to answer any questions you have about studying at the University. Other Academic Support sessions are also available to book which you may wish to attend and Coventry Student Essentials allow you to work on key skills in your own time
- Visit the Student Portal to access your personalised teaching timetable. (Enrolled students login, arriving International students please use the link provided in the email you have been sent)
- Visit any Information Point, located in every faculty building as well as in TheHub, or email
- Call the Student Engagement Team on +44 (0) 24 7765 6565 with any questions you have

Activate your IT account
Your student Microsoft Office 365 University email account
- Your Office 365 account will be automatically created when you enrol.
- To use your account, go to Microsoft Office 365 or for more information, log in to the Student Portal.
- Check your University email regularly for important communications about your course and University accommodation
- Staff will only respond to emails sent from your Office 365 account

Moodle is known as a 'virtual learning environment' (VLE), it used extensively here at Coventry University allowing you to access course resources, modules that you have enrolled upon, submit assignments and keep track of your grades online. You will be introduced to additional applications to support your studies where appropriate. Once you have enrolled upon your course, you will be able to use your username and password to log into Moodle.
Moodle can be accessed from any computer or mobile device with internet connection and a web browser.
AULA is our new social learning platform currently being piloted for 2019/20. Some students will use this to access their learning materials and to support their learning.
Echo360 is available in all teaching rooms, some staff record lectures, presentations and more and modules can be accessed by students.
Mahara can be found on the Moodle dashboard and is an e-portfolio which allows students to create and upload content to be shared with others.
Top Hat is utilised in teaching sessions to conduct polls, team activities and more.
Big Blue Button
Big Button Blue is used in classrooms for webinars, online presentations and can be used to deliver lectures remotely.
This is a useful tool to detect plagiarism and for feedback and can be accessed via Moodle assignments, providing an originality score for work submitted.
Online Surveys can be used to set up online questionnaires for research and accounts can be requested via the IT service desk.
Your Student Portal will give you access to University services and information, including central careers, Centre for Global Engagement (which gives students the opportunity to work or study overseas), finance and funding, FutureLets accommodation , health and wellbeing and lots more.
Student Bystander Training
As members of our university community, we expect all our students to behave well: discrimination, intolerance and violence have no place on campus.
We strongly encourage you - as a Coventry University student - to take this online training module, which aims to foster a safe, positive campus where all students feel able to achieve their very best educationally and also enjoy their university experience.
The module will help you to recognise incidents of hate crime/discriminatory behaviour and also show you how to:
- Intervene if you witness an incident if it is safe to do so
- Report an incident if it happens to you or others
The module will take between 10-20 minutes to complete. Once completed you will be asked to fill in a survey so we can evaluate the module’s impact and you will have the option to request a completion certificate for your portfolio.

What is the Add+vantage scheme?
Coventry University has developed the unique Add+vantage scheme to help you gain work-related knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience to facilitate your transition from University to the working world.
With the Add+vantage scheme you can choose from an extensive range of modules. Take a look at our Add+vantage Level 1 Modules leaflet.
Do I have to study an Add+vantage module?
Add+vantage modules are a mandatory part of most full-time undergraduate courses, however, there are some exemptions, which can be found in our Add+vantage eligibility document.
You must register, attend and pass your Add+vantage module each year to be awarded your honours degree.
What do I do next?
- Further information relating to Add+vantage modules and the registration process will be discussed during your first week of teaching.
- Once you have enrolled, check your Coventry email account for further information about the scheme.
- Register for your module as soon as you have enrolled by speaking to a member of the Add+vantage team in Careers (TheHUB 1st Floor). If there is a delay in your enrolment, please speak to a member of the team who can manually reserve you a place in your module.
- Add+vantage teaching begins the week commencing the 27th January 2020, please ensure you register prior to this date.

Coventry University Students' Union
Coventry University Students' Union (CUSU) will represent you as a student, and make your student experience the best it can possibly be. They’ve got loads of things for you to get involved in including sports, societies, volunteering, campaigning, media and representation.
Your welfare is really important to them, and they have their own in-house advice team to help with everything from exams and coursework queries, to housing contracts and landlords. They are available to support you with anything that’s affecting your student life.
When you enrol online you have the option to share your data with Coventry University Students’ Union. Doing so allows you to join sports clubs, societies, and communities, volunteer, be part of the course rep system, buy tickets to events, stand and vote for Students’ Union positions and be kept updated about CUSU activities, news and events.
The most employable graduates have taken part in activities outside of their course so please get involved and make the most of your time at University.
