Dr. Afthab Hussain

The objectives of my research are to understand the physiological, cellular and intracellular processes that are involved in myocardial injury following a heart attack or via drug induced myocardial impairment of myocardial function. Furthermore, to determine physiologically or pharmacologically feasible adjunctive therapies that can protect the heart from injury and preserve function in young and aged models of cardiovascular disease. The key aim of my research is to translate our research from ‘benchside' to 'bedside’.

Dr Hussain has published numerous articles in the field of cardiovascular research and presented his research at both national and international conferences. He has supervised several PhD and MRes students during his time at Coventry University.
