Project objectives
Agroecology Now! is a research, action and communications project convened by the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience that focuses on understanding and supporting the societal transformations necessary to enable agroecology as a model for sustainable and just food systems. It is based on the commitment to co-producing and mobilising knowledge with civil society organisations, intergovernmental bodies, policy-makers, researchers and food producers to advance societal transformations for agroecology and food sovereignty.
AgroecologyNow! especially stresses the importance of People’s Knowledge and Transdisciplinarity in societal transformation and using participatory, transdisciplinary and action-oriented approaches to research. The project is also closely aligned with the CAWR research themes on: Community Self-Organisation for Resilience and Policies and Institutions.
The project involves a range of researchers at CAWR as well as other partners around the world.
Impact
We strive to co-produce knowledge that can be mobilised by both institutional and civil society actors to advance agroecological transitions around the world.
Our action research has led to new insights and analyses that have been important in shaping practice, policy and the research agenda on agroecology. We work at a local, national and international level to influence policies related to agroecology and to contribute to shaping the discourse and narrative on agricultural development to emphasize food sovereignty, agroecology and deepening democracy.
Our work includes engaging with the UN World Committee for Food Security, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, the UN General Assembly, the UK Department of Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs, amongst other governmental and intergovernmental bodies.
We also work with social movements, food producer organisations and citizens to build bottom up forms of agroecology initiatives and networks. This work is reflected on our website in the blog posts, section on policy, publications and videos.
