This PhD project will deal with the evaluation of different electromagnetic variables as to their generalised diagnostic ability in traction motors. Moreover, the ability to estimate the fault level severity will be an important parameter of this work.
The main focus of this PhD work will be to propose novel techniques for maximum power point tracking in harsh conditions that are theoretically elegant while at the same time practically useful.
The aim of this project is experimental investigation of swirling flows in sudden expansions. Such flows are encountered in many applications - e.g. turbomachinery, cooling flows and aftertreatment systems for turbocharged car engines. Recent trend to use turbochargers on engines results in swirling flow entering the catalyst or filter. The effect of swirl on the flow distribution inside the catalyst is not well understood.
The overall aim of this project is to explore the opportunities for using databases and image recognition techniques to significantly reduce the computing and post-processing time for topology optimisation problems. This project will take a meta-heuristic approach to this. This may be tailored/focused for a specific application; e.g. Body In White (BIW) applications.
The overall aim of this project is to explore the opportunities for combining and exploiting the recent hybrid topology methodology (developed by CU in collaboration with MIRA) to aid the development of non-linear topology optimisation (developed at CU) primarily for crashworthiness applications.
