New fully-funded PhD opportunities in Coventry after major investment to improve student mobility

Three new fully-funded PhD opportunities are being launched at Coventry University thanks to a major cash boost to improve student mobility.
Coventry is one of 15 universities in the UK to receive the EU-funding as part of University Alliance’s Doctoral Training Alliance (DTA).
Two of the paid-for PhD opportunities will be within the university’s Centre for Sport, Exercise and Life Sciences (SELS) and one will be within its Centre for Fluid and Complex Systems (FCS).
The DTA was awarded €6.5 million from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement No 801604.
The funding will be spread across subjects including applied biosciences for health, energy and social policy and will create more than 80 fellowships at 15 participating institutions, developing a cohort of early-stage researchers over two intakes.
University Alliance’s successful bid was the only winning British entry out of five in the funding round and is one of eight programmes across Europe to win support.
The DTA, which is the UK’s largest doctoral training programme of its kind, was launched in 2015 to create a new model closely aligned to industrial strategy and priority challenges, producing industry-ready graduates.

As well as Coventry the other participating institutions involved are: Liverpool John Moores University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Nottingham Trent University, Sheffield Hallam University, Teesside University, The Open University, UCLan, University of Brighton, University of Greenwich, University of Hertfordshire, University of Huddersfield, University of Portsmouth, University of South Wales, Ulster University.
