Starting university abroad is not just a daunting time for students, but for their close family too. That's why we've created a page full of important information to help make the university application process clearer and explain a bit about what students can expect from Coventry University.

About Coventry University

Coventry University is a forward-looking, modern university with a proud tradition as a provider of high quality education and a focus on applied research.

Our students benefit from state-of-the-art equipment and facilities in all academic disciplines. Our city-centre campus is continually developing and evolving, and we have plans for further investment in it over the next few years. We have also been chosen to host three national Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning which has enabled us to invest substantial sums of money in health, design and mathematics.

Through our links with leading businesses and organisations, our students are able to access project and placement opportunities that enhance their employability after graduation.

Coventry itself is a vibrant and safe student city that's easy to get to and easy to get around. It’s only an hour from London by train and 20 minutes from Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city. There's plenty to do in Coventry as a student – so whether you're into music, sport, art or fashion, our city centre campus puts you right at the heart of the action.

Coventry has recently been named the 44th best student city in the world* and 5th best in the UK, beating major cities such as Los Angeles, Rome, Athens and Mumbai! As well as the major regeneration work going on around the city, this announcement will further strengthen Coventry’s bid to become the UK’s City of Culture for 2021.

How to Pay

In order to secure a place at Coventry University and to receive a Confirmation of Acceptance to Study letter (which enables the student to apply for a visa), the deposit amount as detailed on the offer letter will need to be paid.

This deposit can be paid at any time, but we advise this is paid three months before the course start date. Early payment of the deposit ensures that there is adequate time to apply for a visa, arrange University accommodation and plan travelling to the UK.

There are a number of ways in which the deposit can be paid:

  • Call an Enrolment Manager on +44 (0)24 7765 2152
  • Bank transfer through PaytoStudy
  • Online
  • Bankers draft
  • Credit card

For further payment information, view our dedicated How to Pay page.

Tier 4 Visa

The visa that students need in order to study in the UK is called a Tier 4 Visa. Students can apply for this within 3 months of their intended course start date. To find out how early a visa application can be submitted, contact your nearest British Embassy, Consulate or High Commission, or check the UK visas website.

To be granted a visa, each student must pass a points-based assessment with a score of 40 points. 30 points are given for having a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies letter from Coventry University, and 10 points are given for meeting the minimum financial requirements.

If the course is scheduled to run for more than 9 months, the student must show that they have enough money to cover any unpaid course fees and £9,135 to cover living costs for 9 months. If the course is scheduled to run for less than 9 months, the student must show that they have enough money to cover any unpaid course fees and £1,015 for each month of the course.

More information on Tier 4 visas can be found on our Tier 4 Visa webpage.
