The CILEx route to becoming a lawyer is low cost, flexible and quick. At CU Coventry you can study CILEx Level 3 and Level 6 over two years full-time. You can also opt for the part-time route should you wish to do so. The Graduate Fast Track qualification will only take you 6 months to complete.
Taking the Chartered Legal Executive lawyer route means you can earn-as-you-learn and gain valuable practical experience as classes are delivered on Saturdays and in the evenings.
There is no requirement to secure a training contract or pupillage when taking the CILEx route to becoming a lawyer. Graduates qualify and practise as Chartered Legal Executive Lawyers and they stand shoulder to shoulder with Solicitors in the legal sector.
Why choose this course?
The CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law & Practice is the first stage of academic training to become a Chartered Legal Executive (unless you already hold a law degree). The CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma is made up of a total of ten units, and is designed to give prospective legal executives a good grounding in all core areas of law.
Once you have completed your Level 3 qualification you will be able to apply directly to CILEx (with a fee) to become an Associate member of CILEx and will be entitled to use the designatory letters ACILEx after your name.
The CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice has been developed as a unitised qualification which permits students to adopt a flexible and tailor-made approach to learning. Whilst all students undertake a certain amount of core study, there is also room for students to take units which reflect their main areas of interest.
What will I learn?
The Level 3 Diploma in Law & Practice comprises of 10 units.
- Unit 1 Introduction to Law & Practice
- Unit 2 Contract Law
- Unit 3 Criminal Law
- Unit 4 Land Law
- Unit 5 Law of Tort
- Unit 7 Family Law
- Unit 9 Civil Litigation
- Unit 12 The Practice of Family Law
- Unit 16 Client Care Skills
- Unit 17 Legal Research Skills
The qualification also includes a practical legal skills component. The professional skills units (units 16 Client Care and 17 Legal Research) require that students demonstrate key transferable legal skills in practical situations.
The mandatory inclusion of these units in the Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law & Practice ensures that the qualification both reflects the pace of change in the legal sector and that CILEx students are well-prepared to embrace this change.
For more information on the qualification the CILEx handbook provides a comprehensive guide, setting out information about the content of the qualifications, the examinations and assessments.
