Overview
The BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies degree is designed for international students who have completed a Nursing registration equivalent to Diploma level studies overseas and wish to study full time at Coventry University to explore the knowledge base which underpins nursing practice.
You will study key issues in nursing practice in the UK, leadership and management. Following the course many students apply to register with the Nursing and midwifery Council (NMC) (additional costs charged by the NMG apply).

This academic programme provides an opportunity to explore the knowledge base which underpins nursing practice and to share learning with nurses from other parts of the world. The Course comprises of five mandatory modules and one optional module. Successful completion of six modules will lead to the award of BSc (Hons) Nursing Studies.The educational aims of the programme are:
- To increase the extent to which professional nursing practice in global healthcare is research based.
- To provide continuing professional education for nursing which complements and enhances the academic content of their initial training courses.
- To critically and rigorously analyse the relevant literature, which underpins the evidence base of nursing practice.
- To influence the strategic direction of patient care within a student’s own field of practice at national and/or international level.
- To facilitate continued professional development and the advancement of nursing practice.
- To develop graduates who will emerge with the capacity to be leaders within their own profession and to shape and direct policies through strategic thinking in the future.
- The academic development within this course also enables you to contrast approaches to nursing practice between your country of origin and the UK.The course design enables integration with UK Nursing students and usually students from around the world as well.

The modules will be taught by a variety of teaching methods including lectures, seminars and workshops.
This course will be assessed using a variety of methods which could vary depending upon the module. Assessment methods may include formal examinations, in class and/or online tests, coursework designed to focus on real world scenarios, group projects and presentations.
The Coventry University Group assessment strategy ensures that our courses are fairly assessed and allows us to monitor student progression towards the achieving the intended learning outcomes.
Following successful course completion you may choose to progress to the MSc Nursing at Coventry University, return to Nursing in your home country or apply for registration to work in other countries.
Each module comprises 200 hours which includes 50 hours of teaching contact hours and 150 of student self-guided study.
There are a number of international experience opportunities within the Faculty which are advertised centrally. However these can not be taken during teaching time (subject to additional costs, competitive application, meeting applicable visa requirements and availability).

Tuition Fees
We pride ourselves on offering competitive tuition fees which we review on an annual basis and offer a wide range of scholarships to support students with their studies. Course fees are calculated on the basis of what it costs to teach each course and we aim for total financial transparency.

Career prospects
Graduate Immigration Route visa
Based on current information from the UK Government, international students whose study extends beyond summer 2021 may be eligible for a visa under the UK Government’s Graduate Immigration Route, which will enable students to stay and work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for up to two (2) years. Check the most up to date guidance available to check your eligibility and any updates from the UK Government before making an application or enrolment decision.
This degree enable graduates to study at Masters level either within the UK or overseas as well furthering career in nursing or the global healthcare arena
A number of graduates choose to apply for NMC UK nurse registration on completion of this course. Others on returning to their own country apply for senior nurse positions following completion fom this degree
