What our students say
The course has given me a great insight into all business aspects and has helped me determine which aspects are most suitable for me.
Course information
The course reflects business thought and practice with an emphasis, where appropriate, on the application of theory to real business situations, challenges and issues.
Case studies will be used to give you an in-depth understanding of how the different parts of an organisation support one another. Previously, for example, students have considered the project management issues involved with festivals like Glastonbury, the ethical concerns in the supply chains of cut flowers and the challenges of managing mega-events, such as the Olympic Games.
Our aim is to provide you with a business degree qualification that equips you for careers in local, national or international markets, encouraging you to go beyond an understanding of management theories to also be able to apply them confidently to real life situations. We strive to create a study environment which will encourage you to build up your awareness of the dynamic business environment and how current events impact this with real life case studies and current events analysed in seminars and used to explore the challenges of putting theory into practice. In addition, our strong focus on providing opportunities for gaining work experience, supported by both our careers service and our Faculty Employability Tutors, helps you gain the skills, knowledge and networks that build the exceptional profile employers are attracted to.

In more detail...
With 5,000 students and 300 staff, Coventry Business School is one of the largest in Europe, rated as ‘excellent’ by Eduniversal and ranked 18th in the UK for Business, Management and Marketing by the Guardian University Guide 2019. We are active members of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS), as well as being signatories to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (UN PRME) initiative.
Our students are attracted by the flexibility of the course, which provides an excellent grounding in the key areas of business, such as finance, human resource management, strategy, supply chain management and marketing, but then allows you to specialise as you progress depending on your interests and career aspirations, whether these relate to human resources, marketing, finance or supply chains, for example. Alternatively, you can choose to continue to study across the range of the functional areas of business.
Our dedicated faculty comprises commercially-aware practitioners with expertise in all the business disciplines, who bring their professional and/or research expertise into teaching. Many have worked for firms such as Oxford Analytics, IHS Intelligence Consultancy and GDF Suez, occupying senior roles in business analysis, marketing, project management and research.
We are looking for students who are curious about the business world, who want to develop strong networks between their peers and fully engage with the experts who teach them – not just our own faculty, but also the many industry experts who come to share their experiences and insight in topics as such as current HR challenges, managing the supply chains of mega-events and what graduate employers really want from new recruits.
- £350m investment in facilities, a single site campus with excellent learning facilities all in easy walking distance.
- Provides a very relevant and natural progression path to study for an MBA in subsequent years following appropriate experience of work.
- Regular input from industry and commerce with recent guest speakers from HSBC, Manchester Airport Group, NFU Mutual, TNT, Jaguar Land Rover and Severn Trent.

This course is available on a three-year full-time basis or a four-year sandwich basis, where between Years Two and Three there is one year of work experience or study abroad at a partner Institution. We offer a main September intake and an additional one in January and May, where students undertake two semesters in Term 2 and 3, then join the September intake for their remaining years of study.
The Faculty’s Employability and Placements Unit will assist you in finding a suitable placement, which will enable you to put your studies into practice, gaining valuable experience of the world of work on a much more significant scale than vacation or part‐time work.
We have a range of partners where you can undertake a study abroad year. These currently include: Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Lazarski University, AMOS Sport Business School and East Asia Institute of Management, with students going to countries such as China, Belgium and France. You also have the option to undertake a shorter Summer Placement Module for a minimum of six weeks over the summer before or during your final year of study. Studying abroad provides an opportunity to add an international dimension to your course by experiencing the teaching and learning environment of an international institution. You will appreciate the language and culture of another country, enhancing your interpersonal skills and, in turn, your employability.
Some teaching methods will be taught by guest lecturers from industry or experts in the field, which in the past have included Calor Gas and Worcester Bosch talking about the particulars of their business environment and the challenges they face. You will have access to a wide range of field trip opportunities, with many of these being overseas. Trips are advertised regularly and provide opportunities to understand business within different cultural environments and to develop networks with a wider range of students and organisations. Examples of past trips include New York, Peru, China and Belgium, such as the trip to Leon last year which incorporated a visit to an innovative web design business and a manufacturing plant.
In addition, your academic personal tutor (APT) will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice throughout your time on the course. In the National Student Survey (NSS) 2016, 100% of our students were satisfied with the advice and support they received during their studies and had been able to contact staff when needed.
Teaching methods include:<br> lectures, with associated seminars, tutorials and workshops, incorporating case studies, problem‐centred learning, practical exercises, surgeries, electronic business resources and databases, ICT packages.
You will be assessed using a variety of methods, with each year of study usually including: some examinations and time constrained tests; some course work in the form of reports or essays; attendance at events, such as field trips; group work, such as presentations or reports; and practical work and phase tests. Some of this will depend on the options selected, but clear information on assessment techniques will be available before you make a choice.

- Formal examinations: 40%
- Coursework, tests, essays: 30%
- Practical or project work: 10%

Entry Requirements
Unconditional offers
We want to recruit the best students to Coventry and having assessed applicants' past, current and predicted performance and commitment to the course we feel that it is appropriate to reward consistently high-achieving students with an unconditional offer from a top university. It is a commitment from us with regard to an applicants’ potential as an excellent undergraduate and we hope that this will encourage such applicants to join the Coventry community.
Personal statements and references will also be taken into account and, for some degree courses, an interview will form part of the assessment. The criteria for unconditional offers will vary across the University as entry requirements for specific courses differ and not all degree courses will be taking part in the Scheme. The unconditional offer will be confirmed once a selected applicant has made Coventry their firm choice.
Coventry University has assessed that you are capable of achieving excellent grades and we have demonstrated this belief by making you an unconditional offer. This is our commitment to you so then we ask that you reciprocate this commitment by selecting us as your ‘firm’ choice and activating your unconditional offer.
We will consider other qualifications for a pre-result unconditional offer providing that you have an appropriate proven performance at GCSE (or equivalent) level and predicted grades in line with grades that we expect to see at A-level. Other qualifications that we may consider for a pre-result unconditional offer include: the International Baccalaureate Diploma, BTEC Level 3 qualifications, Cambridge Pre-U and combinations of qualifications (e.g. BTECS plus A-levels).
An unconditional offer is what it says it is. So if you don’t meet your predictions then your place at Coventry is still guaranteed. However we would hope and expect that you continue to work hard to make the most of your potential and be best prepared to study at university level.
We can’t but our experience over the years has shown us that students like you with a track record of high grades and excellent predictions are very likely to achieve those grades. Our assessment takes into account all elements of your application to allow us to take a holistic view of your potential. There is still the opportunity to gain one of the Coventry University Scholarships if you achieve the required grades so there is a financial incentive to aim high. Unconditional offers are only made to individuals who have demonstrated their commitment so we believe their focus and determination is unlikely to waver in the final stages of their qualifications.
No, the unconditional offer is only available to those who will take up their place in 2018.

What our alumni say
BABA (as we like to call it) has helped me to identify the significance of versatility in the workplace. This is reflected in the course content as I was able to learn different aspects of business – a huge advantage! From Finance to HRM, it was evident that these areas would help me to increase the prospects in my career.
The lecturers and tutors were also supportive and accessible as they shared their experience or expertise with us to familiarise with real-world contemporary issues. The most enjoyable aspect of the course is being able to improve my transferable skills as this would help to transition to a new role or even build on my personal development.
