Aimed at those with limited applied knowledge of marketing, this professionally accredited master’s degree programme aims to enhance both your commercial awareness and your appreciation of the operational marketing management functions.
Course content has been developed with feedback from employers. Special emphasis is placed on developing your analytical and creative skills, crucial for sound decision making, innovative problem solving and flexible marketing strategies capable of adapting in our fast-changing, global business environment.
We cover core marketing theory and principles, together with specialist sub disciplines such as services, retail and digital marketing. You’ll have the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into a broad range of contemporary issues in marketing – anything from marketing communications for a real life company to marketing planning.
You will have the opportunity to complete a fundraising activity for a third sector organisation. During 2016/17 students have designed a campaign and collected money for Breast Cancer Care and UK Boston Terrier Rescue. Some of the events that students designed included: An international food festival, an international Valentine’s Day theme, and a tea festival including Chinese, Indian and UK tea rituals. Students were then asked to produce a press release which was disseminated to media outlets.
You'll get the chance to experience real-life business cases and learn about the latest trends and challenges from inspiring guest speakers, which have previously included the Marketing Director from Jewson, Senior Strategy Manager from Tarmac and Head of Communications from University Hospital. We also offer the chance to apply for an internship, with past students receiving placements with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover. Internships are open to all students and subject to a selection process.
You’ll be taught by staff who have spent time in industry, in roles such as marketing executives, managers and directors of private and public sector organisations. Many are recognised both nationally and internationally in their respective fields of specialism, publishing their research in the highest quality academic journals, including Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, Psychology and Marketing and Journal of Consumer Behaviour, to name but a few.
