Aimed at those with limited applied knowledge of marketing or advertising, this professionally accredited Master’s degree blends the specialist subjects of communications and advertising with key areas of marketing such as strategy, customer behaviour and insight.
Course content has been developed with feedback from employers and provides a full overview of advertising practice, the functions and processes of creative departments and the various stages from planning through to evaluation.
Special emphasis is placed on developing your analytical and creative skills, crucial for sound decision making, innovative problem solving and flexible marketing strategies capable of adapting in our fast-changing, global business environment.
You will have the opportunity to complete a fundraising activity for a third sector organisation. During 2016/17 students have designed a campaign and collected money for Breast Cancer Care and UK Boston Terrier Rescue. Some of the events that students designed included: an international food festival, an international Valentine’s Day theme, and a tea festival including Chinese, Indian and UK tea rituals. Students were then asked to produce a press release which was disseminated to media outlets.
You will put your creative skills into practice, responding to real-life briefs from the D&AD awards and practical challenges, this year we are particularly proud as a team of our students have got to the final of the very prestigious L’Oreal Brandstorm initiative at L’Oreal headquarters in London!
We will draw on topical and live case studies, discussing contemporary issues in advertising and marketing including live projects for example producing a full situations analysis and marketing communications campaign for companies which include Revive, Brewhouse and Kitchen, Greene King Farmhouse Inns and Tewkesbury Borough Council.
We also offer the chance to apply for an internship, with past students receiving placements with the likes of Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin, some of our students have even secured senior positions at some of these companies.
You’ll be taught by staff who have spent time in industry, in roles such as marketing executives, managers and directors of private and public sector organisations. Many are recognised both nationally and internationally in their respective fields of specialism, publishing their research in the highest quality academic journals, including Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Business Research, Psychology and Marketing and Journal of Consumer Behaviour, to name but a few.
