Michael is responsible for the portfolio of Engineering, Environment and Computing. He also holds the Lloyd’s Register Foundation Chair of Structural Integrity and Systems Performance. Michael’s research centres on the application of advanced experimental methods to materials engineering applications, particularly in the nuclear power and aerospace industries. His research assesses materials performance and structural integrity, working with partners in industry and national laboratories. He chairs the board of CU Services Limited, the University’s subsidiary company that supports commercial activity across the Group. He is a non-executive director of Diamond Light Source Limited, the UK’s national synchrotron X-ray facility.
