Coventry City facilities

Coventry is a lively, multicultural city, which embraces the old and the new. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Cathedral Quarter, where the modern architecture and ancient ruins of the two Cathedrals dominate cobbled streets with bustling pubs and restaurants.

Walk through the pedestrianised City-centre and you'll see over 1000 years of England's history, ranging from the medieval charm of historic Spon Street to the architectural innovation of Millennium Place.

Entertainment highlights include:

  • three shopping centres
  • the £33m SkyDome complex - incorporating a superclub, ice rink and multplex cinema
  • art galleries
  • Belgrade Theatre
  • the £60m Ricoh sports arena
  • City Sports Centre - home to an Olympic-sized pool

Entertainment and culture

By day, Coventry is a great place to shop, eat, drink and relax while at night, it transforms into a buzzing vibrant centre with bars, pubs and clubs to keep you entertained through to the small hours.

If you're looking for a cultural experience, the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum is definitely worth a visit. You may also like to take in a show or two at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry's premier theatrical venue, highly renowned for staging local and national productions.

Coventry's reinvention

An example of Coventry’s reinvention as a desirable place to live, work and study, Priory Place is a new urban square featuring shops, bars, cafes and apartments and is home to the new BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire.

The new Arena Park, just outside the City-centre, includes shops such as Next, Marks and Spencer, Borders and the largest Tesco in Europe, leisure facilities, a casino and the football stadium.

The face of Coventry has changed dramatically over the last few years and further developments are planned - including brand new City squares and gardens, a huge open plaza for outdoor events and the restoration of the medieval walls.

The City's slogan, 'Coventry Inspires', was chosen by the people of Coventry to reflect the City's unique qualities in these times of change. It is a play on the famous three spires, and lends itself so well to the idea that Coventry has inspired so much in its distinguished history. We at the University are proud to call it our home.

Beyond Coventry

Coventry forms a gateway to some of the most historic, cultural and scenic areas of the UK. Places to visit include the peace and beauty of the Warwickshire countryside, nearby Stratford-upon-Avon, Royal Leamington Spa and England's second city, Birmingham.
