If a .pps file won't open, ensure that .pps files are mapped onto Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show. (This means in Internet Explorer, check 'View', 'Folder Options', 'File Types'. There should be an entry which maps .pps files to MIME content type 'application/vnd.ms-powerpoint' and opens them with 'POWERPNT'.)
