International Experience

The Centre for Global Engagement (CGE) promotes and sources opportunities for Coventry University students to participate in a wide range of international activities. Every year hundreds of students receive financial support towards a project or a placement with an international dimension. Our International Experience opportunities are open to UK, EU and overseas students.

According to the British Council and The Higher Education Funding Council for England data – gaining international experience makes you more employable. Students with international experience also obtain higher starting salaries, develop the global skills employers require and achieve better career progression, so what are you waiting for?!

Planning your International Experience

Where to explore?

The great thing is that this can be up to you! Some destinations that our students have gone to in the past include: Europe, China, India, Africa, North and South America, Australia, and New Zealand!

How long for?

The length of your International Experience can depend on the type of activity you choose to do. For example, it can range from a 1 week conference to a whole summer volunteering.

What support will I receive?

The International Experience scheme allows students to apply for financial support towards a project or a placement with an international dimension. More information on this can be found on the student portal

Alongside this, you will also be able to receive financial support through our 'No Hidden Extras' grant.

What to do?

The possibiites are endless; projects include:

  • participation in international conference
  • attending exhibitions worldwide
  • individual international projects
  • joint lectures and seminars with students from our network of partner universities worldwide
  • research projects with foreign students
  • summer work camps
  • volunteering
  • cultural discovery trips
  • language tuition abroad
  • learn a new language via our Linguae Mundi programme

We promote a range of opportunities offered by external organisations.

We encourage students to find their own international placements outside of the UK and we fund students looking to attend and present at international conferences, attend study camps, carry out research abroad, attend job interviews and many more.

What our students say

The Winter School in Russia has improved me as a person, friend, colleague and an ambassador for my university. Thanks to Coventry University, students have the chance to go abroad and get funding for their trips. I am now able to adapt quickly to the international environment and I also understand the difficulties students and professionals have to face in the business world.
