There is a very broad range of Add+vantage subject areas, and they are arranged in themes. In the 'Global Languages' theme you can learn French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese or Portuguese. In the 'Global Perspectives’ theme you can study how to do business in different parts of the world or look at intercultural communication in the global society. In the ‘Professional Development’ theme, a module has been created in association with multinational companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car and Severn Trent Water to give students unique industry insight and guidance for graduate recruitment. Other themes include Creativity and Enterprise and Entrepreneurship; Work Experience, Global Experience Field Trips, Projects and Skills; Professional Accreditation and Research Skills.
The common thread is that they develop and expand the skills employers are looking for, and aim to enhance your CV. They also facilitate the transition from university to work.
One Add+vantage module is taken in each year of study and the modules are credit bearing (10 credits) and a mandatory part of most undergraduate degree courses. The Add+vantage modules must be passed in order to be eligible for an honours degree.
Degree courses exempt from the Add+vantage Scheme are Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing (all branches), Midwifery, Dietetics, Paramedic Science, Operating Department Practice, Social Work, Youth Work, Accountancy, Accounting and Finance, Finance and Investment, Law, International Law, Business Law and Engineering.
The Careers and Add+vantage team is located in the Central Careers on the first floor of TheHub in Jordan Well. The service is open from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm Monday to Friday (5.00 pm outside of term time).
